Aberfan Disaster

by Daniel Kelly – 2025

We’re not digging for coal today lads,
And we sure aren’t digging for gold,
But we’re digging for bairns,
We’re digging for bairns now cold,

Oh the pitman he knows of the danger,
Every time that he ventures below,
But the dangers above,
To the ones that he loves,
The pitman he did not know,

Well the bosses they piled up the spoil,
As they piled the coins in their purse,
And they knew full darn well,
If the old piles fell,
They would cover the town in a curse,

It was just about nine in the morning,
When Tip number seven she crashed,
And that deadly black wave,
Rushing too quick to save,
Devoured the school in a flash
