Many before had strapped themselves,
     G          D          C
Aboard that tower of lightning,
     Em                   Bm
And sought to reach the heavens,
     C               D
But to make it home alive,
But Hubris and Complacency,
Bleed into human venture,
And we seek to pinch a penny,
     C          D    G
When safety costs a pound.

     C               D               G
There’s ice on the launchpad at Canaveral,
     C          D7              Bm
But someone over-ruled the engineers,
     C               D               G
Now seven lives are taken at Canaveral,
     C               D                  G
And the world still remembers with our tears,

Twenty five safe launches
Had Preceded that dark morning,
On the twenty eighth of January,
When seven brave souls died,
Millions watched in horror,
As the debris started falling,
nd cloud of smoke and fire,
Put an end to human pride,

Dick Scobee was the captain,
Of that ill-fated mission,
Michael was the pilot,
At Challenger’s controls,
Judith, Ronald, Ellison, the centre
of the mission,
Gregory and Christa,
for researcher they did go.
